SUMMARY FOR 2006
Styrofoam collection continued with an intial sweep of about 10 kayak deck and tow loads needed in the Spring to clean up
after the winter storms. A small but steady stream of foam blocks continues to escape from the resorts resulting in 1-3
blocks being brought in by kayak 1-2 times a week.
The Cleanup Day (see below) plus ongoing collections by kayak and by the Bureau boats removed significant large debris from
around the lake shoreline, as shown by the Berryessa Collectibles map for 2006.

LAKE BERRYESSA CLEANUP DAY, April 25, 2006

The federal Bureau of Reclamation sponsored a major Cleanup Day at Lake
Berryessa on April 25, 2006. Ten staff
members and five volunteers on shore and in the two large Bureau work
boats picked up piers, buoys, styrofoam and trash from the various
places around the lake that had been reported on the Projects page over
the past several years. Particular emphasis was placed on the northern
end of the East Shore between Eticuera and entrance E6 where about
fifty bags of debris were collected.
During the week previous to Cleanup Day, Bureau maintenance
folks towed
in several large piers from around the shoreline. After Cleanup Day,
Bureau staff and HH continued collection of the accumulated bags from
the shoreline.
With this major advance in the ongoing lake cleanup, the format of the
Projects page changes. Instead of itemizing each needed collection, all
items awaiting collection are now shown on the Berryessa Collectables map,
a small version of which is shown to the right. This map will be
continually updated to show items awaiting collection plus items
collected. During Cleanup Day, a printout of this map was carried by
cleanup personel and this was found to be more effective than detailed
itemization on the Projects website.
